The Mar Menor is a unique saltwater lagoon in the Mediterranean, located in the Region of Murcia. With a surface area of 170 km², it is a natural area protected by national Laws.
Being almost completely closed to the Mediterranean Sea makes it a safe place for all types of sailing, with short waves and shallow sea depth (7 meters at the maximum).
In recent years, it has hosted top-level European and World competitions.
The Mar Menor is made up of a total of five municipalities, one of which is Los Alcázares, where the High Performance Nautical Center, built in 1995 by the Spanish government, is located.
This center, with a surface area of 29,000 m², features several sports buildings, including a large residence with capacity for 300 people, and is equipped with all the necessary infrastructure for top-level nautical sports: access to the sea with a wide ramp, a 150-meter-long dock, moorings, water and lighting towers, etc.
Within the center, there is a large esplanade reserved for the nautical area, a hangar, and all the necessary facilities to host the best nautical events..
